The first round of strategic dialogue between Sudan and Great Britain began yesterday in the capital Khartoum, with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi and Africa Minister at the Foreign Ministry UK Foreign, Community and Development, Vicky Ford.

Official sources in the local media said that the dialogue was aimed at “coordinating and enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields and laying a solid foundation for a strong partnership between the two countries”.

Speaking at the inaugural session, al-Mahdi said, “Historical relations between the two countries are a positive asset, which stimulates a strategic dialogue that will help strengthen and enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.”

He praised Britain’s support for Sudan in overcoming the challenges to democracy.

In turn, the British Minister said that London has strategic dialogue to lay a solid foundation for a solid partnership with Sudan.

He expressed his country’s continued support for the success of the democratic transition process in Sudan in all areas. He invited AL-Mahdi to attend the next round of talks in London in six months.

Although strategic talks between the two countries have already taken place, they were interrupted after the struggles that led to the resignation of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.
