Hernan Crespo no longer coaches Sao Paulo. According to the club, the decision was made “by mutual agreement” with the Argentine coach.
In addition to Crespo, all his coaching staff leave the club, such as Juan Branda (assistant coach), Alejandro Cohan and Gustavo Sato (physical coaches), Gustavo Nebuti (goalkeeper coach) and Tobias Cohan (performance analyst).
Crespo got off to a good start in Tricolor, leading the team to the São Paulo title and taking the club off a “waiting list” that lasted nearly nine years without a title. In all, there have been 53 games, with 24 wins, 19 draws and ten defeats, which is an improvement of 57.23% points.
Sao Paulo will now be looking for a new coach to compete in the final stage of the Brazilian League. Tricolor Paulista finished 13th with 30 points.
Crespo Trail in Sao Paulo
Crespo arrived in Sao Paulo at the start of the 2021 season, after winning the Copa America with lowly Argentina Defensa y Justicia. The coach had a good start, as the team quickly absorbed his ideas into play, which led to a good campaign in Paulistau, with his title right over rival Palmeiras.
In the Libertadores, Tricolor had a safe collegiate role, and qualified without major problems. Racing was eliminated in the round of 16 with authority, but fell to the same Palmeiras in the quarter-finals. In the Copa del Rey, Sao Paulo also fell to Fortaleza in the quarter-finals, losing by a landslide at Arena Castellao.
The Brasileirão restaurant in São Paulo was not very good. The team failed to replicate Paulistau’s performance and left valuable points along the way. Crespo leaves the team on a campaign of 25 games, six wins, 12 draws and seven defeats in the major national championship.
