The company has been a vocal critic of Competition Defense Commissioner Margrethe Vestager’s proposal, announced last year to limit the power of the company and other US giants such as Amazon, Facebook and Alphabet.

In response, Apple published an analysis of the threats that may arise as a result of unlocking the ecosystem of applications created by Apple around the App Store.

“If Apple had to accept the so-called ‘sideloading’, more malicious apps would reach users because it would be easier for criminals to target them,” the company’s survey read.

The Apple study cites figures from digital security service provider Kaspersky Lab, which show nearly 6 million attacks per month affect Android devices, the Alphabet operating system.

Vestager’s proposal needs approval by parliaments and EU countries before it can take effect, which is likely expected in 2023.
