Ricardo Rocha: “Ethnic and ethnic diversity in Portuguese/European science must not remain a taboo topic”

Ricardo RochaAnd A National Geographic explorer, he took the first steps in his career as a conservation biologist on the island of Madeira, where he is from his native land. From there he headed to Brazil, Madagascar, China, Kenya, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe and Finland.

Her research work focuses on assessing the impact of agriculture and habitat fragmentation on communities living in tropical forests, as well as monitoring species that persist in human environments. The sheer enthusiasm with which he speaks of our planet’s biodiversity is contagious.

In 2020 he was awarded a medal European Early Career Preservation Award, awarded by the Society for Conservation Biology as a result of its contribution to nature conservation and the promotion of a more diverse scientific community. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Research in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO-InBIO), where he studies ecology and nature conservation in tropical ecosystems and in Macaronesia.
