On Thursday (19), Brazil and Colombia signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in space activities for peaceful purposes. The document was signed by the Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, astronaut Marcos Pontes and his Colombian equivalent, Tito Cristian Borrero.
Cooperation will take place in thematic areas such as Earth observation, development, assembly, testing and operation of satellites. In addition, the agreement will allow joint use of the scientific and technological infrastructure between the two countries.
The space program has a very important role in the development of many areas. There are a number of challenges that can and must be resolved in partnership. That is why it is important to have a partner like Colombia, who will also be able to rely heavily on Brazil in creating its space program,” said Minister for Astronautics Marcos Pontes during the MoU signing ceremony.
For Colombian Minister of Science and Technology, Tito Cressian, the cooperation will bring social and economic progress to both countries. We are convinced that this partnership will contribute significantly to the development of many areas, especially social and economic. Brazil and Colombia have always been scientific partners. He said that having the support of our neighboring country gives us the certainty of success in developing our space project.
The Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) and the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), both affiliated with MCTI, will be the two Brazilian institutions with the most involvement in this scientific collaboration between Brazil and Colombia.
