NSAlthough the human tragedy of the pandemic has tempered political attacks on science, and left this strategy confined to irresponsible people in the service of authoritarian projects, it is the duty of the press to highlight the silent work of researchers, whose effects they feel in everyone’s lives. An example is research by the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), which monitors the concentration of Sars-CoV-2 in wastewater in Goiania.
In partnership with Saneago, scientists collect samples at the Dr. Hélio Seixo de Brito for wastewater treatment, which accounts for 70% of household waste produced in the capital.
The result indicates an increase in the concentration of the virus without significant differences over the weeks. This information provides additional support to public health administrators, as it predicts the ups and downs of pathogen turnover in the population. Collection and analysis are carried out weekly, which ensures regularity and reliability of decision-making.
Thus, with facts emerging from the scientific method, health authorities can devise epidemiological protection maneuvers. The facts also allow citizens to protect themselves from the criminal use of disinformation for non-Republican political purposes.
