According to a recent national survey, four temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are among the 20 most peaceful tourist destinations in the United States.
Also cited in the survey are the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple, the Oakland California Temple, the St. George Utah Temple, and the Mesa Arizona Temple. All four have visitor centers on the temple grounds, with the Idaho Falls and Mesa Temple visitor centers specifically mentioned in the listings.
For active Latter-day Saints, Church temples around the world are considered quiet, sacred places where temple ordinances are performed and covenants are made for living members of the Church and their deceased ancestors. All of the temple grounds and visitor centers are open to the public, helping to inform visitors of the peace of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
National Census [em inglês] Commissioned by Casaco, a vacation rental property management company serving property owners and guests in Mexico and the United States, it selected the 20 most peaceful vacation spots in the United States and the most peaceful location in each of the 50 US states. country and 20 major cities. It also identified the top 10 quietest places in New York City.
The Idaho Falls Temple and Visitor Center ranked third on the US list, while the Oakland Temple, St. George and Mesa Temple and Visitor Center ranked 10th on the top 20 list.
For research, Kazako searched TripAdvisor’s “Things to Do” section for tourist sites and attractions in all 50 states and 20 major U.S. cities. Kazako then ranked attractions by state and city, as well as separate lists of the top 20 nationwide and the top 10 in New York City based on the word “Pacific” per 1,000 reviews in English.
The survey excluded spas, ATV tours and horseback riding. Data analysis continued up to September 2023.
Sites highlighted by research include churches and chapels of various religions, shrines, gardens, cemeteries, parks, beaches and wildlife sanctuaries.
According to Kazako Research, the five most peaceful tourist destinations in the United States are:
1. National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche At Mission Nombre de Dios in St. Augustine, Florida, there are 410 references to “quiet.”
Two. Sholom Park Ocala, Florida has 408 references.
3. Idaho Falls Idaho Visitor Center and Temple, with 398 notes.
4. National Shrine of Saint ThereseIn Juneau, Alaska, with 381 notes.
5. Pyodo-in Temple Kaneohe in Hawaii with 376 notes.
Other Houses of God in the top 20 in the national survey are No. with 230 mentions. Oakland California Temple at 11, with 208 notes no. St. George Utah Temple on 13 and the Mesa Arizona Temple and Visitor Center. 16th place, with 195 references.
St. George’s Temple and its grounds have been closed since late 2019 due to extensive renovations of the pioneer-era temple, so later reviews may be attributed to the nearby visitor center. The sprawling Oakland Temple grounds are popular with the community, especially for family photography, bridal, engagement and wedding photos, as well as quinceañeras [celebração latina do aniversário de 15 anos de uma menina]and other events.
Two temples were listed among the top 20 U.S. cities in the survey: Phoenix, Arizona, and the San Francisco, California metropolitan areas of Mesa and Oakland, respectively. In fact, the two largest city locations received the most mentions of the word “quiet.”
On the state-by-state lists, three of the four temples and visitor centers: Idaho Falls, St. George, and Mesa top the list for their states. The Oakland Temple is the second largest in California Self Realization Fellowship Hermitage and Meditation Park Encinitas, California, ranks seventh nationally with 354 mentions of the word “Pacific.”
