A Chinese probe returns to Earth with samples from the far side of the Moon

The Chinese Chang’e-6 probe successfully landed on Earth, carrying samples from the moon, on Tuesday (25), according to official media. Thus, China became the first country to collect samples from the far side of the moon and bring them to Earth.

🌏 Chang’e-6 The plane landed in the northern region of China at around 2:06 pm local time (3:06 am Brasilia time). Between the trip to the Moon and back to Earth, the mission took 53 days.

With the help of a robotic arm and a driller, the probe collected samples from the moon and left the natural satellite two days after landing.

Scientists believe that the hidden part of the moon, which cannot be seen from Earth at all, has great research potential. This is because, unlike the side we can see, the craters on the hidden side are not covered by ancient lava flows.

Moreover, material collected by the Chinese probe could provide clues about how the Moon formed.

🚀 China had already placed a spacecraft on the hidden side of the moon in 2019, but it had not collected any samples.

Under President Xi Jinping, the country has devoted great efforts to realizing the “space dream.”

👩‍🚀 By 2030, China plans to send a manned mission to the moon, in addition to building a surface base on the natural satellite.

Meanwhile, the United States believes that China’s space program is being used to hide military targets.

The United States is also preparing to send astronauts to the moon on a mission scheduled to take place in 2026.
